Step Up Tutoring Receives the Collective Impact Award at NPSS Higher Education Summit

We are proud to announce that Step Up Tutoring, in partnership with Arizona State University’s Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College (MLFTC), was awarded the Collective Impact Award at the National Partnership for Student Success (NPSS) Hub Higher Education Summit on October 8 in Washington, D.C. This recognition honors our efforts to answer the call to action to provide people-powered support and resources that will help today’s students succeed.

Joined by Korbi Adams , Rob Adams, and Lauren Conn from ASU’s Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College (MLFTC), our teams were recognized for our deep commitment to our work participating in working groups and bridging the efforts of the Higher Education Coalition and Supporting Champions to benefit the entire network. The award, presented by U.S. Deputy Secretary of Education, Cindy Marten, celebrates the collective work we’ve done to help students thrive.

The power of collaboration

Step Up Tutoring and ASU are part of a collaboration that showcases the strength of collective impact. One of our most recent achievements is the launch of the Tutor Training Initiative in collaboration with ASU’s MLFTC and Annenberg Learner. This open-source training program equips tutors across the NPSS network and beyond with the skills and strategies they need to provide high-quality support to students.

Introducing the open-source Tutor Training Initiative

The High-Impact Tutoring Training program, co-developed by Step Up, ASU, and Annenberg Learner, provides research-backed training for tutors in 24 concise “nanocourses,” each lasting just 15 minutes. This program is grounded in research-backed practices and collaborations with leading institutions such as Stanford University's National Student Support Accelerator (NSSA). The program covers key tutoring practices and specialized instructional strategies for virtual tutoring and math instruction. Our goal is to make this program accessible to all tutoring practitioners, ensuring every student receives the best possible academic support.

What is the National Partnership for Student Success (NPSS)?

The NPSS is a public-private partnership committed to providing students with the support they need to succeed. The NPSS focuses on five types of evidence-based support: academic tutors, mentors, post-secondary transition coaches, student success coaches, and wraparound integrated student support coordinators. The NPSS is designed to address the immediate recovery needs from the COVID-19 pandemic while serving as a bridge to a more supportive and equitable education system.

Together with our partners, we are committed to ensuring that every student has access to the support and guidance necessary to succeed in their academic journey.
